Does Drinking Water Help You Lose Weight?
Jennifer Vanderbilt asked:

Without a doubt, drinking water can help you lose weight. One of the most important factors to losing weight the right way is water consumption. Water plays a role in all the body’s functions, including digestion, delivery of nutrients, removal of waste, , and lubrication and cushioning of and tissues.

More importantly for people trying to lose weight, water increases your body’s ability to metabolize fat. In other words, it helps you get rid of the fat present in your body. The adult human body is 50 to 60 percent water by weight. The body is good at regulating it’s own water content and will tell you when you need more by making you feel thirsty.

The required daily water intake for each person varies greatly. It all depends on age, level of activity, and environmental factors such as heat. The usual recommendation of 8 glasses of water a day is not enough for some people, such as athletes and others who exercise frequently, and is too much for others, such as older adults.

If you aim to use water as a tool to lose weight, then the recommended 8 a day will be sufficient. You might have to use the restroom frequently when you start, but your body will quickly adjust to the increase of water intake.

So the more water you consume the more fat content is washed out of your body’s system. Although water can help you lose weight, it is still important to learn other ways to increase your chances of losing weight more effectively.
