Drinking Water
Drinking Water – Everyone should try to drink about 7-8 large glasses of water per day. Your body will hold fluid, if you don’t drink enough. Every pound you carry has about 3500 calories, or energy in it. So for example, if you burn or use 350 calories more each day than you consume, for 10 days, you will lose a pound. You can’t lose 2-3 pounds a day, for more than about a day, without gaining it right back. Your body will go on high alert and stop burning calories and make your appetite soar. Since your body’s water level fluctuates the trust scale is not so reliable. There are times in my monthly cycle when I am retaining 4 pounds of water, so don’t get discouraged just don’t maintain your drinking water plan.
If you want to weigh 142, which is slender for a 5’8″ girl, eat about 1800 calories a day. It sounds like a lot, but you will lose weight quickly, and keep your energy up. If you can stick with it, the weight will soon come off before you know it. The weight will stay off because that is about the right amount of calories to maintain that weight. Remember to write down your eating plan for each week. Always eat healthy good foods such as vegetables. Buy the foods ahead of time, so they are always available. For me, fruits and vegetables and low-cal dressing, tuna, eggs, yogurt, peanut butter and whole grain bread are the main things I typically consume. I drink several bottles of sparkling water every day as well.
Instead of drinking water 24/7 you can curb your apetite by eating pretzels which are very low cal. The ones I had were about 15 pretzels in one serving. I’d always eat them slowly and have a diet soda, each mid afternoon. My late snack was an apple with or a spoon of peanut butter. My mid-morning snack was one or 2 pieces of fruit, like pears. My 3 meals were simple combinations of the above foods mentioned. If you can add exercise you will be slim really fast, and healthy to boot!
Be cautined as well that drinking too much water can be somewhat bad for you — and in some cases even fatal. The condition caused by drinking too much water is called water intoxication. It can have several possible effects which can cause an emergency medical situation.
While most people are safe drinking six to eight glasses of water a day, dieters or very active people may try to get an extra edge by drinking more. This can result in an imbalance of the body’s electrolytes. Too much water can quickly deplete electrolytes such as the sodium compounds.
Rapid intake of too much water basically floods the inside of cells where sodium is depleted. This sodium depletion, called hyponatremia, can rupture the cells. As cells rupture in various parts of the body, certain symptoms emerge with rapidity. Severe vomiting and nausea can be common in such instances. Headaches may also occur as the brain swells. A person may become confused or disoriented. Symptoms can progress and may include seizures or going into a coma.
Enough said about drinking water…remember to do everything in moderation and you will have a long and healthy life!
