Aaron Reese asked:

Is drinking water to lose weight really effective? Scientists say yes! You have probably heard that you should drink at least 8 8-ounce glasses of water per day. But how can that possibly help you to lose those extra pounds?

German researchers conducted studies that proved drinking water speeds up metabolism and burns extra calories. Subjects who drank 17 ounces of water all at once showed an of 30% over the course of the next hour. The studies also showed that a person who increases his or her water consumption by 1.5 liters each day will lose an extra five pounds per year.

Five pounds per year doesn’t sound like a lot, but when you are struggling to lose weight, any little bit helps.

Besides, that’s not all that water does. Drinking water to lose weight has many indirect benefits. Dehydration often manifests itself as hunger. Many times when we feel hungry, it is really just our bodies crying out for water. But we misinterpret these signals and decide to eat a snack instead, which will keep the pounds on and do nothing to rehydrate our bodies.

Drinking lots of water in between and during meals will ensure that we stay feeling fuller for longer, thus reducing the overall amount we eat.

Many people are concerned that will promote water retention or water weight. This is absolutely not true! The best way to avoid water retention is to actually drink more water. This is because once the body finds itself dehydrated, it will conserve as much water as possible to make it last longer. By drinking more water, you can rehydrate your body and lose that water weight quickly.

Drinking water to lose weight is a great idea. Combined with a healthy diet and adequate exercise, it really is the best possible formula.
