The Hidden Truth About Drinking Water Purification Systems and Healthy Water
Tyler Waterman asked:

Home drinking water purification systems are everywhere. The unlikeliest companies have a drinking water purification system. Why? The answer is simple. There is a big market for them.

Recent reports have most families afraid to turn on their taps, unless they have drinking water purification systems that they trust. Headlines read, “Drugs and hormones found in Tap-Water.” And then there is – “Municipalities Fudging Numbers on Water-Testing.” But, my personal favorite is, “Authorities Say Consumers Would Not Understand Facts about the Water-Supply.” What, are we stupid? Many experts are recommending that everyone, but particularly those with children should have a drinking water purification system in their house.

Are All Systems Created Equal?

Drinking water purification systems for the kitchen, bath or whole house are supposed to protect us from contaminants and lying, pseudo intellectual bureaucrats. But, can we trust the manufacturers any more than we trust the treatment facilities to do their jobs? My research says, “Not always.”

Would you buy a drinking water purification system from the Home Shopping Network? Lots of other people did. Of course, once they got it home and opened it up, they found that what was advertised as maintenance free was really more like disposable. With a name like clean and pure, they expected drinking water purification systems, but when the manufacturer was pressed for certified performance data, they admitted that the unit only removed some chlorine and odor, improving the taste a .

Water Safety Levels Are Different For Children

A point of use or in home drinking water purification system should remove chlorine and odor, while improving taste, but there are many other things to be concerned about. The reports indicate that the level of (drugs and hormones) is very low, but they have no idea what that level could do to a child. On the other hand, they do know what lead will do.

Lead is a toxic metal that causes birth defects, learning disabilities, nutritional deficiencies and a multitude of other health problems, even at very low levels. The facilities can not prevent it from entering our houses, because the problem is in the pipes that run between them and us. There are old and should be replaced, but that of course would take a lot of money and disrupt service. So, they leave it to you, to protect yourself. Blocking lead is an absolute must for drinking water purification systems.

Wherever chlorine is used to disinfect, there are by-products called THMs. The government knows that they are in the water and that they cause cancer, nerve damage and other health problems. They limit the amount that can be present and still classified as “safe” to 80 parts per billion. That’s one of those numbers that they think we wouldn’t understand. While most any in-home drinking water purification system will remove chlorine, only a few block THMs.

Here’s what you should understand about the numbers. Less than 80 parts per billion is not believed to be toxic to anyone weighing over 175 pounds. But, if you have kids, well that’s a different story.

The only way to protect them, yourself and the rest of your family is to invest in one of the drinking water purification systems that are effective enough to remove all of the chemicals contaminants that could be a problem, as well as lead, microscopic bacteria and other health risks. In order to do that you need multi-media blocks, activated carbon and micron filtration.

The technology is out there, we just have to find it.
